Random of the week

I am so uber sorry for not updating this blog for such a long time. As usual, I am still very busy with my work. Next week will be the busiest I guess as I have to rush 2 submission for MAS claims due to CNY holidays and my end of February trip with gals and bfs. I am very excited about the trip as this will be our first international trip together!! We are not rich people, so we cannot afford international trips all the time. We usually travel locally, which we have yet to cover the whole Malaysia. Haha. I guess short trips are just another excuse for us to gather and talk non stop. I think the older we get, the more we talk and talk and talk and talk. Even the bfs have their own discussion now. Haha.

I bought dad a birthday present!! All by myself okay. From deciding and choosing the design, all by yours truly. Like me, my dad prefer simple yet classic design for our clothes. I showed daddy my wallet and he kind of like the brand (yes, the brand, not my wallet!!) so I got him one. I love his wallet because it is soft leather and so nice to touch. I’m glad he likes it. Hehe.

This is the Famous Amos truck that I won from the High Tea the other day. Cute right. I sms-ed Calvin that I won a car. He was quite surprised that out of nowhere I won a car. In the end I told him that it was just a Famous Amos truck, he “cheh” me. Haha. I finished the Famous Amos cookies all by myself because Calvin was having sore throat. I got sore throat after finishing the whole packet by myself too. But it was all worth it. Hehe.

Pictures from Seoul Garden. Calvin took a few photographs while I am busy cooking and eating. I did not even bother to smile for the camera. Haha. That’s because I was busy cooking my mushroom!! Hehe.

Seriously, I do not have any new food adventure at the moment. Most of the weekends were spent CNY shopping. Not for clothes but for Calvin’s home. Everything from curtain to bed sheets and not to forget CNY drinks packet and biscuits. I introduced the Teochew porridge near Leisure Mall and Coco Steam boat to his parents. I am glad that they love it too. Weeee~~ Hehe.

This year, I bought pineapple tarts for my mum and his mum. My first time buying CNY cookies all by myself. I hope they love it as much as I do. Surprisingly the cookies are made by a Malay lady. I don’t know the Malays love pineapple tarts as much as we do. I tried a few from my colleagues and they are really good. Nearly as good as my favourite, which has extinct. Haihh… it’s a long and sad story.

Ops, time for bed.

Amy Heritage Nyonya Cuisine

Okay, I okdo admit. I am a lazy pig. There were times when I don’t online for 2 or 3 nights in a row. I am currently busy with a few things. Work, Calvin, CNY and my yahoo games. Yes, yahoo games!! I bought a few CDs with the famous Yahoo games and I can’t stop playing Wedding Dash, Soap Opera Dash and Supermarket Mania. I have a lot more that I have yet to explore. They are so addictive. Hehe. Today, I promised myself to sleep early after a tiring weekend. I have buffet everyday starting from Friday. On Friday afternoon, me and colleagues went to Equatorial Hotel for our department day. We were allowed to finish work at 2.30pm to enjoy a free high tea!! After that, we were treated for a movie but most of us did not go as the choice of movie was quite bad. One of my colleague who went for the movie came out 30 minutes after the show started. Haha. Anyway, I won a Famous Amos truck tin filled with cookies!! Can’t wait to share it with Calvin.

On Saturday night, me and my galz plus partners went to Seoul Garden at 1U for dinner to celebrate Shin’s birthday. It was my first time at Seoul Garden but then was kind of disappointed with the food. Our seats were at the very end. It was okay at first but soon became hot and stuffy towards the end of the dinner. It was very uncomfortable. But the time spent chatting with my galz made up for it. Hehe. We went to Old Town and talk the whole night, till the staff have to turn off the lights so that we will leave the place. Haha. Calvin and other partners sat at another table where they embarked on another conversation. I am super happy that the guys went along well, which means us girls don’t have to worry of leaving the guys together. They bonded very well over the night. Now, whenever we have girls discussion, the girls can either join together or they can have their own at another table. Us girls don’t have to worry that the guys will ask us to leave every 5 minutes. They can talk non stop as well, just like girls. Hehe.

On Sunday night, I went to Tao with Calvin and his family as his aunty will be going back to Australia this coming Saturday. She wanted to treat us for dinner. That was my first time at Tao as well. I must say their food is quite good, with teppanyaki, grilled items, sushi, temaki, sashimi and even Chinese dessert. Hehe. After dinner, we have this meaning conversation with Calvin’s dad and uncle which made us realized on something important. Oh well, both me and Calvin will try our best to achieve it!!! Weee….

To continue where I stopped on my last post, we headed to this Nyonya restaurant where Wai Leng, Vince and Pui See loved very much. They have been there previously. Food was amazing but a little bit pricey from the others. I found out that the owner of the restaurant is actually Rachel’s grandma’s friend. Small world right? Hehe.

Locating the restaurant was a simple task as you can see the restaurant from the main road. It is located opposite Mahkota Medical Centre, a little bit further up. I love Nyonya food because sour and spicy are so my thing.

The yummy pai tee. I don’t like pai tee, so I did not joined their pai tee cheers. Haha. They said the pai tee is really good.

The drinks that we ordered. Actually I am the one who ordered the lychee drink as I was very thirsty and I don’t eat or drink anything with the resemblance of big fat worms. Calvin ordered the Cendol (green worms), while some of the girls ordered another type of dessert with white worms. Haha.

Our food for the day. We were really hungry as the journey from Port Dickson to Malacca was quite far and long as we took the old road/non highway road. Since according to GPS, that is the shortest route. But we should have select the shortest time route. Oh well… let’s get back to the yummy food. The curry prawns were amazing. Not too spicy and the gravy is the best companion for our white rice. Sambal petai with prawns is my favorite of all the dishes. I am a big fan of petai. I can only eat it at home because I won’t have to talk to much people. If I eat it outside, it will be very difficult for me to talk as not many people can accept the petai smell. Hehe. But if you eat it with eggplant, there will be no smell, even when you urinate. Tested and proven to be true. Hehe. The taufu and fish was just average. Oh, not to forget the lady fingers as well. Quite yummy when prepared that way. Hehe. Overall, I would definitely be back to try other food from this restaurant for my next trip to Malacca. Come to think of it, we have been to Malacca quite a number of times but none of them were with Rachel. Malacca is her kampung and all of us were very eager for her to show us other famous and yummy food as well. So dear Rachel, please arrange a time for us to makan-makan at Malacca, Rachel’s list. Weeeeee.

That’s all for now. Have to continue with my Yahoo games. Haha.

Happy 2011!!

I know it is a little bit late to wish you all a happy new year but still, for me, the whole month of January is worth wishing people that we care a happy and healthy new year. To end year 2010, me and my friends went over to Port Dickson for BBQ by the beach. As usual, the girls went early to get ready all the things and joined by the guys later. We booked a 3 room apartment where all the girls and partners stayed for the night. Initial plan of games and drinks were cut short to sleep as all of us were very tired and exhausted after a whole day of preparing all the stuffs. All of us went there early since 31st of December was declared a public holiday after Malaysia won the soccer competition 2 nights before.

Exif_JPEG_PICTURE

View from our apartment. We rented a private apartment equipped with Astro, air conditioner and cooking utensils. There is a private beach in front of our apartment but Wai Leng said it will be too dark at night to bbq there as there are actually not much light around that area. So we went to the public beach where there will be more people around and with lamp posts along the beach. Easier to tell whether our meat is raw, cook or burnt. Hehe.

Exif_JPEG_PICTURE

This is me, burning the charcoal. The other pit was handled by Deane and Guy. I love this part of BBQ very much. I brought the fan all the way from home!! Hahaha. Semangat berkobar-kobar lor.

Exif_JPEG_PICTURE

The view from our BBQ place. Very romantic. This is the main reason which made me and Calvin to go somewhere with beach for our next vacation. Hopefully somewhere around middle of the year. Krabi perhaps? Hmmm……

Exif_JPEG_PICTURE

Guys looking like a big boss while Deane being the servant cooking food (in this case, charcoal) for him. Hahaha.

RIMG0021

Some of the food that we had that night. We ordered lamb cutlets, pigs in the blanket, cheese stuffed mushroom, mini juicy lucy burgers, rolling pins, chicken wings, garlic butter, stuff jacket potatoes, bacon and garden salad. My favourite will be cheese stuffed mushroom, rolling pins and chicken wings. The food were marinated very nicely but a little bit expensive for me. But since non of us were free to do the shopping and marinating job, we will have to pay more for someone else to do it. Hehe. This is my first time BBQ different type of food besides chicken wings and hot dog. Worth the experience.

This is Mei Yee moon tanning. Hahaha. She don’t read my blog, so it’s okay that I post this photograph. I guess by this time, she will be happily doing her air stewardess duty somewhere. Congrats girl!!!

After BBQ and packing, we headed to the beach. I guess we were too old or tired to think of any games to play. The sand was very cold that night, so I asked TW to help cover my foot with sand. Everybody then started to bury me with sand, which was “super fun” at that moment. The guy in red was actually Kian Shen. His technique of “splashing” me with sand was one of the most un-enjoyable moment of 2010. Haha.

Exif_JPEG_PICTURE

Exif_JPEG_PICTURE

The end product. Everyone looking very happy, especially the boys. Check our the brotherly pose by Guy and Vince on the left. So…… man. Haha.

Exif_JPEG_PICTURE

After that, I freed myself from the sand and sat down on the beach. Wai Leng, Vince and Pui See decided to dance around me as if they were going to cook me or sacrifice me for some ritual thingy. This is the third funniest game of the night. The second will be when the girls decided to play burung helang catching anak ayam hiding behind ibu ayam. Note to self: plan games for the next outing. Hehe.

Exif_JPEG_PICTURE

We ended the night with fireworks. Deane and Guy brought along fireworks and I asked Wai Leng to help me and Calvin take a photograph of us under the fireworks. The picture above is actually 2 different photographs photoshop into one. Wai Leng managed to snap a photograph of us but the firework was directly on top of us, so we can’t see it. TW on the other hand managed to take a photograph of us with the firework but her hands were extremely shaky when she took the photographs. Both me and Calvin look super blur in all the photographs. So, Calvin combined two photographs together to create the outcome as above. Haha.

We headed to Malacca the next morning for brunch. Will blog about the yummy Nyonya food that we had later on.

Top 10 Food of 2010!!

Happy New Year, my dear friends. I wish that everyone will have a great year ahead. For my cousin sister who will be having PMR later this year, study hard to earn the money reward from my mum ya Smile

Had a BBQ by the beach with my girlz and guys from secondary school friend at PD on New Year’s Eve. Food was amazing but the whole thing was really tiring. Initial plan for drinks and games at our apartment was cancelled as most of us were very tired after a long day of packing and getting there and drinks shopping. It was all worth it as the food was amazing. My first time grilling the special BBQ items. Thank you to Deane and Guy for providing liquor which we consumed only 10%. Hahaha. Shall save it for next time ya!!

I would like to take this opportunity to list out me and Calvin’s top 10 favourite food for year 2010. It was indeed a great year for food to both of us. Amazing findings, here and there!! Let’s begin, shall we.

1. Warm chocolate pudding cake from Café Café.

017

Calvin found this place for our post Valentine’s dinner. This will be our first time celebrating Valentine’s day together. Valentine’s day actually fell on the first day of Chinese New Year. I went back to Ipoh while he stayed at KL. So we celebrated Valentine’s day once I got back from Ipoh. The dinner experience was amazing and romantic. Love the ambience of the restaurant. The best part of the dinner will be our dessert. I remembered clearly that both of us were actually very full after our main dishes. But we definitely don’t want to waste this piece of heaven. Aww…. I miss this very much. Definitely will be back for more and more and more. Hehe.

2. Coco Steamboat

IMAG0097

I am always a big fan of steamboat. Dad introduced us to this yummy steamboat at Taman Connaught. I love their soup very much because it was very appetizing. Not too spicy for Calvin, which is just perfect for me. It was also through this dish that I started to like steamboat with fried yam. Absolutely yummy. Hehe.

3. Subway008

I am not a big fan of bread but I will never ever say no to a meal at Subway. I can finish a 6 inch sandwich all by myself. When The Sun has vouchers for Buy 1 Free 1, it was like striking lottery for both me and Calvin. I love it that I got to choose what I want and don’t want to be on my sandwich, and also what type of sauce. I also started to accept white bread more compared to last time. Ever since my parents started on the whole meal bread, I find white bread very yucky and milky. Not anymore, thanks to Subway. Hehe.

4. TTK Bak Kut Teh

IMAG0208

This has been my favourite BKT of all time ever since I was small. When I introduced it to Calvin when he was still working in Times Square, he love it as much as I do. I was surprised at times when he suggested to have TTK for dinner after work. But ever since he moved back to Dataran Sunway, we have not been to this place for quite some time. When I mentioned it to him that day, he was feeling it as well. Awww…..

5. SnowflakeIMAG0282

Whenever I am staying overnight at Calvin’s place, I will try to beg him for Snowflake dessert at night. Everytime we went there, this is the only thing that we will order to be shared. Other combination don’t look appetizing at all. I love the taro balls, chewy and yummy. Calvin preferred to eat the dessert together with the fresh milk but I totally hate it. So he will pour bit by bit of the milk onto his own spoon before consuming it. However you eat it, this will still be one of the thirst quencher dessert of the year. Hehe.

6. Tamarind Hill

Exif_JPEG_PICTURE

Exif_JPEG_PICTURE

Calvin found this place all by himself. This is the place where we celebrated our first year anniversary and also my last day working at AAN. A lot of mixed feeling but then the surprise and all the effort that he made to plan for the dinner blown me away. All of the food that we ordered that night were amazingly good. Not to mention that we have the whole evening in the restaurant by ourselves. Really an unforgettable evening for me *shy* This just proves that what an amazing guy Calvin is and that I am right for my decision in choosing him. Hehe. Ohh, someone should be blushing by the time he reads this. Hehe.

7. Big Wok Korean Food

Exif_JPEG_PICTURE

Up until now, I still haven’t found out the name of this restaurant. Pui See first introduced this place to me few years ago and I brought Calvin back to this place for dinner. Even though just the two of us, we managed to finish up to 95% of the food on the big wok. Although a little bit spicy for Calvin, but he enjoyed the food as well. The smartest decision that we made was adding nissin noddle to the dish. The noodle went extremely well together with the chicken meat, cabbage and Korean nin gou. Ahhh… I want somemore!!! Hehe.

8. Tomoe’s Unagi Don

003

Since we have yet to try the Unagi from Jyu Ryuku, Tomoe’s Unagi Don is still at the top position for the best unagi!!. Congrats!! With no stale taste at all, the unagi was served warm with not too salty/sweet sauce on top of a layer of Japanese rice. Both of us love the unagi very much and Calvin did not even leave one rice in the container at the end of the meal. That is a sign that he really love the unagi very much. Hehe.

9. Kissaten’s mushroom spaghetti with half boiled egg.

IMAG0016

I was not a big fan of half boiled egg but this spaghetti abolished that phrase once and for all. Calvin is a big fan of half boiled egg, in fact he’s a big fan of egg dishes. Haha. But when you mix the half boiled egg evenly with the spaghetti and mushroom, it’s really yummy. Kissaten is a fusion japanese restaurant at Jaya One. Their char siew pizza is amazing as well but I don’t have a photograph of it. I also choose this place to be my farewell dinner with my ex-colleagues. Hehe.

10. Yakiniku

017

018

I love this place very much because it reminds me of the amazing charcoal grilled buffet dinner that I had in Taiwan. It was the best meal for my Taiwan trip. Hope to be back again some time in the future with Calvin. I know he will enjoy that place as much as I do. But I forgot the name of the place…. wuu wuu wuu. But there’s a similar shop at Pandan Indah. I read about it from other blog and insist to try this place out with Calvin. The grilled pork and taufu pok are my favourite. They have chicken, meat and beef as well. It’s really worth all the sweat and heat and even at the end of the day, we left the restaurant with bbq as our new perfume. Haha.

There, our top 10 favourite food of year 2010. Actually I have a full photo album in my laptop for our favourite food, but it’s too much to list out. So I only select the top 10 of the best, and we even went back for 2nd and 3rd visits already for some of the restaurant.

Happy New Year once again. More good food for everyone!!! WOoohooooo!!
